Students attending or planning to attend Gulf Coast State College in the fall of 2019 can begin applying for 2019-2020 Foundation scholarships on December 1st. The deadline to apply is March 15th. Some deadlines for the scholarships vary. All scholarship applicants must be accepted into Gulf Coast State College before they attempt to apply for a Foundation scholarship(s). All successful recipients of Foundation scholarships will be notified in writing and/or by e-mail in May or June if they have received an award.
A full-time student is defined as one who is enrolled in 12 credit hours or more each semester. A part-time student is defined as one who is enrolled in 6 to 11 credit hours each semester. Scholarships are not available for students taking 5 or fewer credit hours. GPA is Grade Point Average, which is presently based on a 4.0 scale at GCSC.
Demonstrated financial need will be determined from the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). All students are encouraged to complete and submit the FAFSA to ensure every possible type of student aid will
be considered in your financial aid package.

MINIMUM ELIGIBITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to be eligible for consideration, those applying for Foundation scholarships should:
Have achieved a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher in coursework at an educational institution (i.e. GCSC, high school, technical school, virtual school, home school, general education diploma (GED), other educational institution) where 12 or more hours of coursework was completed.
Have a GCSC Student ID number (i.e. A00123456).
Taking or planning to be taking six (6) or more credit hours at Gulf Coast State College.
Be a student in good academic standing at GCSC and with the Foundation.
Have set up and access to myGCSC, Lighthouse, and GCSC email.
BLACKBAUD AWARD MANAGEMENT (BAM)
The GCSC Foundation uses a software program called Blackbaud Award Management (formerly AcademicWorks) to process, award, record and monitor scholarship activity. BAM is one of the leading providers of scholarship management solutions for higher education institutions. All Foundation scholarship applicants will use the BAM system to apply for scholarships.
Entry into the Blackbaud Award Management program requires an applicant to have a GCSC Student ID number, and advance set up of myGCSC and GCSC email.
BROWSERS – The BAM program works best when using the following browsers: Firefox, Opera, Safari or Chrome. You may experience problems if you login using Internet Explorer. Please avoid using IE whenever possible.
myGCSC / LIGHTHOUSE
Access to Blackbaud Award Management (formerly AcademicWorks) is only provided through an applicant’s Gulf Coast State College Lighthouse account. Access to Lighthouse is made through a portal called myGCSC. myGCSC is a portal for student, financial and learning resources such as online registration, grades, degree evaluations, financial aid, and academic records. All students will be asked to set up a myGCSC Personal Identification Number (PIN) that is unique to the individual. Your PIN will remain active while you are enrolled as a student at GCSC. DEFINING A SCHOLARSHIP
A Foundation Scholarship award is a monetary amount (grant-in-aid) given to a GCSC student who has applied and been selected to receive a scholarship. Scholarship awards are not meant to cover 100% of a student’s educational cost, but are intended only to supplement a student’s educational funding.
Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only (fall and spring semesters) unless otherwise noted. Recipients must reapply for scholarship consideration for any subsequent academic year. The only exception is the Foundation’s High School Honors Scholarship, which is good for two years.
GCSC STUDENT RECORD CONFIDENTIALITY SELECTION
All GCSC students who select to have their student records kept “confidential” will not be eligible for Foundation scholarships. To comply with a student’s request, GCSC will not forward any student information to the Foundation. Without the necessary student information available, the Foundation would be unable to make a scholarship qualification determination.
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another person’s thoughts or words or artifacts or software as though they were an applicant’s own. If an applicant summarizes another person’s ideas, judgments, figures, software or diagrams, a reference to that person in the text must be made and the work referred to must be included. The work submitted must be the applicant’s own.
The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Use of unacknowledged information downloaded from the internet also constitutes plagiarism.
Failure to observe any of the provisions of this policy or of approved College guidelines constitutes an offence. Offences will normally be treated as cheating. Applicants found to have committed an offence may be excluded from all further Foundation awards or scholarships.
AUTHORIZATION OF USE OF STUDENT DATA
Scholarships are awarded based upon GCSC admission application and FAFSA data. The Foundation acknowledges that certain information about the applicant is contained in the records maintained by GCSC and is deemed confidential by reason of the Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). By processing an applicant’s scholarship application, the Foundation will consider such information confidential and will use all commercially reasonable efforts to protect these records in accordance with FERPA.
All applicants must grant to the Foundation the unrestricted right and permission to gather student information for the sole lawful purpose of scholarship selection, awarding, and monitoring. All applicants must grant the unrestricted right and permission to copyright and use, re-use, publish, in whole or in part, in any and all information contained in an application for any lawful purpose that may promote the Foundation and/or it’s scholarship program.
