High School Seniors
High school seniors who are graduating and planning to attend Gulf Coast State College can apply for Foundation scholarships. However to access a scholarship application, a senior must be officially accepted into GCSC and complete an orientation course. This also applies to dual enrolled high school seniors.
REQUIRED APPLICATION STEPS
STEP 1: (Admissions) You must apply for and be accepted into GCSC. Applications are available online at www.gulfcoast.edu. There will be an application fee. This provision also includes high school seniors who have participated in dual enrolled programs with GCSC.
STEP 2: Set up your GCSC email account. All students will have a student email account (@my.gulfcoast.edu) through the College’s email system.
STEP 3: (Optional) (Financial Aid) This is not a requirement for applying; however the Foundation encourages everyone to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. You may apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.gulfcoast.edu or www.fafsa.gov . The GCSC school code is 001490.
STEP 4: Set up access to your “myGCSC” account, Lighthouse, and Canvas at www.gulfcoast.edu Both may require different usernames and passwords.
STEP 5: Log in to your “myGCSC” portal and find your Lighthouse account. Locate the Foundation scholarship application link in your “student” tab or “financial aid” tab. Please note: the Foundation link will be available in the financial aid tab if an applicant has applied for financial aid using FAFSA.
STEP 6: (Scholarships) Once steps 1, 4, and 5 have been completed, log-in to Blackbaud Award Management (formerly AcademicWorks) and apply for Foundation scholarships.
DEADLINE FOR APPLYING
Unless otherwise indicated, the Foundation’s scholarship application is available from December 1st through March 15th. Scholarships with automatic consideration do not require an additional application.
High School Honors: The priority deadline for applying for High School Honors Scholarships is March 15th. Applicants must have a “weighted” GPA of 3.5 or higher to be considered.
General Foundation Scholarships: (Committee Select) The priority deadline for applying for the Foundation’s general endowed scholarships is March 15th. Please note there may be a few select scholarships that have application due dates past March 15th. You will be able to make the determination by reviewing the guidelines for a specific scholarship.
Foundation Departmental Scholarships: (Faculty Select) These scholarships are selected by members of the GCSC faculty or staff. The responsibility for setting priority application deadlines rests with the GCSC department in charge of selecting a recipient or recipients.
Foundation Community or Organizational Scholarships: (Donor Select) These scholarships are selected by members of the community. The responsibility for setting priority application deadlines rests with the individual or group in charge of selecting a recipient or recipients.
HIGH SCHOOL RECOGNITION
The Foundation will make all reasonable attempts to recognize scholarship recipients who are graduating high school seniors. However due to the March 15th application deadline, the selection of recipients may not become official before a high school’s senior recognition or graduation ceremonies. The Foundation reserves the right to recognize a high school senior as “a potential scholarship nominee” for recognition purposes; however, please note the nominee may or may not be officially selected by the scholarship committee. The Foundation will not be responsible for any announcements, recognition, or award claims generated by a high school (prior to the official awarding of scholarships) unless pre-approved by the Foundation.
